About Us
Chabad House of Mumbai was founded in the year 2002 by the Chabad emissaries, Rabbi Gavriel Noach and Rivka Holtzberg Hy”d. The Lubavitcher Rebbe encouraged the establishment of Chabad Houses throughout the world, dedicated to serving the local Jewish population and meeting their material and spiritual needs.
The emissaries, Gabi and Rivki, were murdered during a cruel terrorist attack on their Chabad House in 2008, together with four of their guests.
In 2011, the Kozlovsky family moved to Mumbai in order to continue the activities that were abruptly halted. The place is flourishing, thank G-d, and includes: a Jewish school and kindergarten, a kosher restaurant, Shabbat and Holiday meals, help for travelers and more...

Chutzpah is a Hebrew word that has been adopted into Yiddish and then English. Chutzpah has been defined as audacity, insolence, impudence, gall, brazen nerve, effrontery, incredible guts, presumption and arrogance. Yet something essential about chutzpah is missing from all these words.

“Pharaoh commanded to all his people: Every son that is born shall be cast into the River” (Exodus 1:22). The Nile was the mainstay of the Egyptian economy and its most venerated god. Therein lay the deeper—still relevant—significance of Pharaoh’s decree: Today, too, Jewish survival depends on our ability to resist the dictum that children must be submerged within an educational system whose focus and goal is the attainment of a “career” and “economic success”.
